Todo Traditional Village is a cultural village located at the foot of Mount Ranaka in Satar Mese District, Manggarai Regency. This small village in the south central region of Manggarai was once the ceremonial heart of the Manggarai kingdom. This village was the ancient administrative centre of the Manggarai Kingdom.

Why Todo is Special:

1. One of The Oldest Villages in Indonesia
Getting to know the Todo Traditional Village, the oldest traditional village in Indonesia. Established when the Dutch chose the Todo Clan to rule over Manggarai. The Todo clan ruled Manggarai's south prior to the arrival of the Dutch, and built nine "mbaru niang" or drum houses in their royal village.

2. Authentic Mbaru Niang Houses
The village has one of the few remaining authentic conical shaped Manggarai traditional houses called Mbaru Niang along with the compang or oval structured stones as the village's ritual center. The village is characterized by its unique conical houses which are built without nails and are an excellent example of traditional Manggarai architecture. Todo is one of the few Manggarai villages that have retained their historic circular layout, with houses built around a raised megalithic platform in the shape of a horseshoe.

3. Living Culture
The community lives in a way that closely adheres to their ancestral traditions, including communal living and strong emphasis on family. They are known for traditional ceremonies, dances, and the Caci Whip Fight. Surrounded by rocky stone fences, grassy fields, and megalithic standing stones, the village maintains a serene, timeless atmosphere. All tourists who come must use traditional cloth and accessories - a sign of respect.

How to Get There:
Located southwest of Ruteng and reachable by motorbike or public transport. From Labuan Bajo to Todo village takes around 3-4 hours driving. The journey can be quite adventurous, taking about an hour along rugged roads from the main road, but it's more accessible than Wae Rebo. Usually combined with Lingko Spiderweb Rice Fields and Liang Bua Cave.

A genuine living heritage, not commercialized.
