Ruteng is a pleasantly cool town situated up in the western hills, it's also the trailhead for the 2,400m-high, rainforest-covered Gunung Ranaka which looms over Ruteng.

About The Volcano:
Poco Ranakah is a volcano located in the south-central part of Flores, Indonesia. Elevation 2,350m (7,710 ft), also known as Palindi Ranakah. Summit elev. 2,288m. It's an active volcano - in 1987-1989 explosions and lava dome formation were reported at Anak Ranakah. Type locality on a steep slope at altitude ca. 1,300m above Kampong Robo, 8km SSE Ruteng, with tall lowland montane forest (15-35m).

The Hike Experience:

Epic Off-Grid Hike - Reviewers describe it as epic off grid hike. Gunung Ranaka is a volcano located near Ruteng, there used to be a road going to the top, but now the road can be used only by motorcycles and hikes as it is overgrown and not maintained for cars. This is where the hiking starts like you might expect - raw, authentic, and challenging.
