Pantai Batu Biru, also known as Blue Stone Beach, is a hidden gem nestled along pristine coastline of Flores. Unlike typical sandy beaches, this unique destination is adorned with blue and green pebbles, creating stunning natural phenomenon.

1. No Sand - Only Blue Stones!
Blue Stone Beach (Penggajawa) — Volcanic Pebbles, No Sand. Located between Ende and Maumere on central-east Flores coast, Penggajawa Beach isn't a sand beach — it's striking shoreline of smooth blue-green volcanic pebbles formed by ancient eruptions.

This Blue Stone Beach in Ende is composed almost entirely of unusual turquoise, blue, and reddish stones. Almost all the rocks are blue.

These stones come in many shades of blue, which echoes color of water. Smooth, rounded by ocean waves for thousands of years. Formed from ancient volcanic eruptions of nearby volcanoes - the minerals create blue-green color. You won't find this anywhere else in Indonesia!

2. Easy Stop on Trans-Flores Highway
Locally known as Penggajawa Beach, you'll see Blue Stone Beach at scenic 25-kilometre drive northwest from Ende on road to Bajawa that takes about 30 or 40 minutes.

Blue Stone Beach is conveniently located in close proximity to Trans-Flores Highway, which wouldn't hurt for you to pay visit, stretch your legs from your tiring journey, and breathe in fresh ocean air.

On journey toward Bajawa, we stopped for lunch at Blue Stone Beach (Pantai Batu Biru), located near town of Ende, in Penggajawa area of Nangapanda District, Ende Regency.

3. Picturesque Backdrop
Azure blue waters and powdery white sands offer picturesque backdrop for relaxation. Beautiful scenery from blue stone beach. Despite some litter issues common in Indonesia, beach's untouched beauty and rich marine life make it perfect for snorkeling and diving.

Sound of waves rolling over thousands of blue stones creates unique calming sound - like natural music!

How to Get There:

• From Ende: 25km northwest, 30-40 minutes drive towards Bajawa on Trans-Flores Highway - you will see it from road

• From Bajawa: 2-2.5 hours east to Ende, Blue Stone Beach is before Ende town

• From Maumere: About 3 hours west

• Transport: Rent motorbike/car, or stop with any Flores overland tour

• Best Time: Morning for best light on blue stones (stones shine blue when wet), low tide for more stones visible

• Facilities: Small warungs for lunch, local kids selling polished blue stones (Rp 20k-50k)

Tips: Don't take too many stones - leave for future visitors! Bring water shoes (stones hot and not comfortable barefoot). Combine with Wologai Traditional Village (one of last remaining traditional villages near Ende) before settling for night in Bajawa. Great for drone photos!
